We are reviewing the Purbeck Local Plan. Once adopted, the plan will be used to approve or refuse planning applications and will set out the vision and objectives for the Purbeck area. We set out our timetable for preparing planning policy documents in the Local Development Scheme.
Beverley Doward BSc, BTP, MRTPI has been appointed as an independent planning inspector by the Planning Inspectorate to undertake an examination of both the Purbeck Local Plan and the CIL Charging Schedule. Helen Nolan has been appointed as the Programme Officer, to assist the inspector in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the examination process.
Any queries about the examination should be sent to Helen Nolan, the Programme Officer using the following contact details: Please note the email address has changed temporarily as we are experiencing technical difficulties with the previous email address.
Correspondence between the inspector, representors and the council is exchanged through the Programme Officer. For transparency and information purposes all documents will be published.

Examination latest news
The council has received a Post Hearings note from the Inspector who is examining the Local Plan within which she sets out her comments on a number of key matters and indicates the changes which, as a consequence, need to be made to the updated schedule of suggested Main Modifications, produced by the Council, dated 8 November 2019. The Inspector has indicated that she is ‘reasonably satisfied at this stage that with Main Modifications the Plan is likely to be capable of being found legally compliant and sound’.
Over the coming weeks the council will be:
i) preparing a finalised set of Main Modifications and an updated Habitats Regulation Assessment (HRA) and Sustainability Appraisal (SA); and
ii) making arrangements for consultation on the: Main Modifications, HRA, SA, an updated version of the local plan policies map and supplementary evidence which was presented for examination in the course of the hearing sessions last year.
The Council will then consult on the Main Modifications. To do this we will closely monitor PINS guidance and Government guidance reference the Covid-19 outbreak and consult as soon as it is safe to do so. You will be notified when the consultation on the Main Modifications begins and have the opportunity of making a response. The Inspector will consider all responses on Main Modifications.
