5G RuralDorset was a ground-breaking programme to understand how next generation connectivity could help people live better, safer and more prosperous lives in rural communities, even in environments as sensitive as Dorset’s UNESCO-designated world heritage coastline.
The research and development work funded by Government and industry was split into five main research areas:
- Future of Food. 5G connectivity in agriculture and aquaculture to increase productivity and reduce environmental impact
- Rural Community Accelerator. 5G mobile services to unlock social and commercial benefits for the area
- Connected Coast. Improved public coastal safety through UK and world first communication services for first responder organisations
- Innovation Accelerator. Indoor and outdoor 5G connectivity at Dorset Innovation Park to support companies developing innovative products and services
- Coastal Cliff Monitoring. 5G connected sensors to monitor land stability and cliff movement along the Jurassic Coast
