Dorset is benefitting from government funding to help bring gigabit capable broadband to more of our areas. This is called Project Gigabit.

Under Project Gigabit, the government is delivering contracts with broadband suppliers to bring gigabit capable broadband to eligible areas.

Project Gigabit aims to fill a gap and serve the homes and businesses not included in any commercial broadband delivery plans.

Phase one in Dorset is complete

The first phase of Project Gigabit was awarded to Wessex Internet and completed November 2025. It delivered ultra-fast full fibre network to 6,490 hard-to-reach premises in the North Dorset area.

Phase two in Dorset is underway

The second phase of Project Gigabit, which will cover the remaining parts of Dorset, was awarded to Wessex Internet in 2024.
