Overview

You need a pavement licence if you want to place tables, chairs and counters outside of your business for customers to eat and drink.

Fees

Application Fee
New pavement licence £500
Renew a pavement licence £350

Licences can last for two years.

Before you apply

Before you apply you should:

  • check the licence information, eligibility criteria and conditions
  • complete a public notice and display it so it is visible to the public on the day you submit your application
  • talk to neighbouring businesses and occupiers before applying for your licence
  • take any issues around noise and nuisance into consideration as part of the proposal
You must make sure the public notice remains in place for the public consultation period. This means it needs to be in place for  5 working days starting the day after the application is sent to us. When counting ‘working days’, public holidays are not included. We advise keeping evidence that you have done this.

Apply

Please note we have recently moved to a new system. This means any existing accounts used to apply for pavement licences are now discontinued and you will need to register for a new account before you can apply again.
