Overview

We support community facilities in Dorset by authorising the installation of suitable signs that guide those wishing to visit an approved facility via the most appropriate route. These signs are not advertisements.

Approved facilities include:

  • schools which are also used for community purposes
  • GP surgeries / medical centres
  • churches / places of worship
  • village halls
  • police and fire stations
  • other public buildings as appropriate

Charges

You will be charged:

  • £130 for initial process of an application
  • supply of signs at cost, plus 10% for administration
  • ongoing maintenance - all future maintenance costs will be met by the applicant. Quote to be provided on request to the highways sign shop

How to apply

Read through our community sign policy to understand more about the procedure and check your request meets our criteria.

When you apply, you will need to tell us:

  • applicant details
  • name, address and details of the destination to be signed
  • preferred signing detail and locations

After you apply

We aim to respond to your application within 28 days.

We will assess your application in consideration of:

  • quality
  • road safety
  • traffic management
  • the environment

Please note that it may take up to six months for sign installation.
