The government has asked each county in England to create a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). For Dorset, Dorset Council are the responsible body for coordinating the creation of the Dorset LNRS, working with Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, Natural England and a wide range of local people and organisations.

The strategy will provide the framework that will:

  • bring together and showcase the great things people area already doing for Nature Recovery Dorset
  • set Dorset's nature recovery priorities
  • show opportunities where areas for nature can be created or improved
  • suggest activities to get involved to deliver more nature across Dorset

Making more space for nature in Dorset will count towards the government's 30 by 30 target - 30% of land, rivers and seas to be managed for the benefit of nature by 2030.

As part of the work in preparing the Dorset LNRS a Nature Recovery Dorset brand has been created to join the people together on the journey of making space for nature across Dorset.

Who is helping

To help prepare Dorset's LNRS we have 6 groups set up with representatives across a diverse range of farmers, landowners, organisations, businesses, and NGOs.

There will be opportunity to have a voice in the LNRS without joining these groups. Have your say on our Citizen Space page.
