The Mineral Planning Authority (Dorset Council, together with and on behalf of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council) is required to prepare a local aggregates assessment (LAA). A local aggregates assessment is an annual assessment of the demand for and supply of aggregates in a mineral planning authority's area. There is a particular focus on supply of land-won sand and gravel.

The LAA is updated annually and covers:

  • the various options for aggregate supply in Dorset
  • future aggregates supply, demand, opportunities and constraints
  • setting the annual supply figure to determine future production

The LAA reports can be downloaded:

The councils are part of the South West Aggregates Working Party (AWP). The AWP prepares an annual report setting out the supply of aggregate minerals in the region. The annual reports of the AWP can be viewed.
