Temporary closures at Weymouth and Dorchester recycling centres this month
Posted on:

Dorset Council is advising residents of upcoming temporary closures and access changes at Weymouth and Dorchester Household Recycling Centres (HRCs, or “the tip”) this September 2025, due to essential maintenance and the IRONMAN event.
Essential maintenance closures
To maintain safe and efficient operations, essential maintenance work will be carried out at both sites. This will require each centre to close for four days:
- Dorchester HRC (Louds Mill) will be closed from Tuesday 16 to Friday 19 September, reopening on Saturday 20 September.
- Weymouth HRC (Preston Beach Road) will be closed from Tuesday 23 to Friday 26 September, reopening on Saturday 27 September.
IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth – Sunday 14 September
The IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth event will also affect access to the recycling centres:
- Weymouth HRC will be closed all day on Sunday 14 September due to road closures. Residents are encouraged to use Portland HRC or wait until the site reopens on Monday 15 September.
- Dorchester HRC will remain open on Sunday 14 September, but access may be disrupted until early afternoon. Residents are advised to either delay their visit until later in the day, use an alternative site, or wait until Monday 15 September.
We thank residents for their understanding and encourage planning ahead for any waste disposal needs during these periods.
