If it is becoming harder to get around and do things at home, make life easier. Changes to your home, big or small, can make you safer and more independent. Find out how.
You might find it tiring standing in the shower or could be worried that will slip. If so, make having a wash easier.
You could sit with a shower seat and hand-held shower head. And keep steady with an anti-slip mat and grab rails – though be careful with suction ones.
Make having a wash easier by:
- getting advice at our independent living centres. To go to Dorchester, book on 0333 003 0010 or milifegreenwood@millbrookhealthcare.co.uk. To go to Wimborne, call our team to book on 01305 221016
- asking for advice on easier washing from independent living charity (DLF) Disabled living foundation on 0300 123 3084
- buying bathroom grab rails and other aids yourself:
- buy bathroom aids from NRS
- find aids in local shops like GE Bridge & Co
- ask a charity if they can install grab rails
- get a handyperson to put handrails in
- getting other bathroom aids:
- buy an anti-slip mat from the Complete Care Shop or buy a mat from NRS
- buy a shower chair from high-street stores or buy from NRS
