The Dorset Historic Towns Project report on Newton Studland.

This report discusses the possible site of the failed medieval town of Newton Studland, now completely rural in character. The present landscape reflects the history of the area in the late medieval and later periods, with the remnants of small dispersed settlements or farmsteads with small irregular fields enclosed from the heathland, and 19th and 20th-century forestry plantations.

Some remnants of the 19th-century clay extraction industry in the area can be seen.
