Metal Detectorists Liaison Scheme

The Dorset Council Metal Detectorists Liaison Scheme was set up in 1994 to recognise and support the many responsible metal detectorists active in the county, and encourage best practice in the recovery, reporting and care of metal detector finds.

We promote collaboration between those who use metal detectors and the archaeological community, and help them present a positive image of their hobby to the public at large. Scheme members undertake to abide by the  Code of best practice for metal detecting in Dorset and are provided with a membership card to demonstrate their bona fides.

Regular mailings are sent to scheme members, and training and field events organised. We also have a finds care scheme, to provide storage materials such as plastic boxes and bags at cost price.

Apply to join the scheme

Before you start:
New applicants and people re-joining the scheme who have not been members since 2010 will need to upload a passport-style photograph.

Apply now

You can also apply by completing a paper version of the form and posting it to us.

If you would like us to send you a paper version, please get in touch.

Scheme not for you? Why not go on our mailing list for information about metal detecting and of general interest relating to archaeology?
