Rough sleeping

Rough Sleeper Assertive Outreach & Engagement Service

This service aims to reduce rough sleeping and the problems associated with rough sleeping. The Outreach Team works across Christchurch, West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland providing services including street outreach to people who are street homeless to ensure that rough sleepers are:

  • provided with information, advice and support to access accommodation

  • able to access emergency accommodation in severe weather

  • re-connected to their own community if they do not have a local connection to Dorset

  • encouraged to access services and support for health and wellbeing

  • linked to services which can support their own and others' safety

Please note that people in housing need or homeless but not rough sleeping should be directed to local Housing Advice Services:

How to access the service

Outreach and assistance to rough sleepers is provided by Julian House Rough sleepers can self-refer to the service by:

  • contacting Street link(24 hour national service) on: 0300 500 0914

  • telephoning Julian Houseon 01305 236585 during office hours

  • dropping in to The Lantern, 2 Ranelagh Road, Weymouth, DT4 7JD during office hours

Members of the public who are concerned about a rough sleeper should contact Street link(24 hour national service) on: 0300 500 0914.

If you have serious concerns about the personal safety of a rough sleeper or a member of the public, including out-of-hours, please contact the Police.
