Pupil premium is extra funding paid to your child's school that can be used to support your child in school or with the costs of uniforms or trips.

The funding the school receives is currently (from April 2020):

  • £955 a year for a secondary age pupil
  • £1,345 a year for a primary age pupil

Pupil premium funding can't be paid directly to parents or carers, but it makes a big difference to schools and eligible pupils. Schools agree strategies with their governors to make sure the funding is used in the most appropriate way. They report on how they spend the money on their website.

Apply for pupil premium for your child's school

You can get pupil premium for your child's school if you apply for free school meals and you're eligible.

If you're eligible for free school meals, but you don't want your child to have them, you can apply for just the pupil premium.

Even if your child is in reception, year 1 or year 2 and already gets universal infant free school meals (UIFSM), you need to complete the pupil premium application form to get pupil premium. This has no effect on your entitlement, but it could provide extra funding for your child's school.

Apply for pupil premium

Use this form to apply for pupil premium only. If you want to apply for free school meals as well as pupil premium, just complete the free school meals application form instead
