The Dorset Music Service works with schools to develop access to music provision across Dorset.

The Musicianship Programme is a 10 week programme of music making. It is available to Key stage 2 pupils across Dorset.

The programme:

  • introduces and develops students' musicianship skills through playing an instrument
  • helps students get an early understanding of the skills and ability they need to learn an instrument
  • aims for all young people to have access to music making opportunities on instruments that are not usually available in their music class

The programme is run by a musician and class teacher. Every child in the class will have their own instrument to use and care for each week.

Who funds the programme?

The Arts Council fund the programme along with contributions from participating schools.
