Apply for a charity collection permit

Overview

You need a charity collection permit if:

you want to collect money for a charity on the street
you want to collect money or clothing for a charity by going house to house

Permits are granted to registered charities and charitable organisations or groups.

Before you apply

Before you apply you should:

read the House to House Collections Act 1939 and Charities Act 1992
ensure your collector is 16 or over and has a visible ID badge

Please note we have recently moved to a new system. This means any existing accounts used to apply for charity collection permits are now discontinued and you will need to register for a new account before you can apply again.

After you apply

When we receive your application we will make sure that:

the collection will not inconvenience the public because of the day of the week, time or the frequency at which it is held
the collection does not, as far as possible, take place on the same day as another authorised collection

Collection returns

When the collection is finished you must submit a return form showing how much was collected and any expenses.
