Shared vehicle
Shared vehicle means that your child travels to their educational provision with other passengers who are eligible for SEND travel assistance.
Individual vehicle
Individual vehicle means that your child travels to their educational provision without other passengers on board. This may be due to the fact that there is nobody living close by that attends the same provision or due to complex medical conditions that may require intervention during the journey.
Passenger Assistant (PA) Support
PA support may be agreed following review. This may be based upon but not limited to:
- Medical Needs: Some children have complex medical conditions that require constant supervision or immediate intervention
- Behavioural Issues: Children with certain behavioural challenges may need a controlled environment to ensure their safety and the safety of others
- Specialised Equipment: Children who require specialised equipment, such as wheelchairs or medical devices
Travel terms
We provide travel on the following terms:
- one inward and one outward journey to and from school or college at the start and end of the day. This may not be according to the start and finish of the timetable day
- travel from the same pick up and drop off points each day. If the child needs picking up or dropping off from elsewhere, the parent or carer will have to organise and pay for this
- school transport does not cover induction and taster days or work experience
- school and Parent/Carers work together to prepare for independence in the future
Please note - the type of travel assistance your child receives may change due to service needs. This could include but are not limited to:
- changes to pick-up/drop-off times
- a different driver or contractor
- new or removed passengers
- changes to Passenger Assistant (PA) support
We will always try to let you know about any changes as soon as possible.
