We plan to extend and complete the cycle network through Weymouth town centre. The aim is to provide a safer and more accessible route for pedestrians and cyclists.
What is happening?
From January to April 2027, we are widening the footway on the north side of King Street. This will:
- connect the existing cycle route that ends on King Street with Weymouth railway station
- add raised footways at the station and the Esso garage to slow traffic and give priority to pedestrians
- keep two-way traffic with enough width to safely accommodate vehicles of all sizes
Traffic management
The eastbound carriageway of King Street (heading towards the Jubilee Clock) will be closed during the works. All eastbound traffic for Dorchester Road/Preston Road will be diverted via Swannery Bridge/Weymouth Way and Manor Roundabout.
Westbound vehicle movement and pedestrian access will remain as usual. The road will be resurfaced once the work is complete.
Improvements to Weymouth railway station car park
The scheme includes resurfacing works within the station car park entrance and exit. There is also a plan to remove a short section of the existing boundary wall, which will help to improve safety for motorists and other highway users.
Thank you for your patience while these works take place.
