Overview

You must request attendance to switch off and bag up permanent traffic signals in Dorset.

This service is provided by Yunex Traffic on behalf of the council.

Permanent signals might be affected, directly or indirectly, by any activities taking place within 100 metres of their location.

Promoters must not, under any circumstances, cut power, switch off, or bag up permanent signals themselves.

Charges

You will be charged as follows:

  • switch-off and bag-up junction - £1,002
  • switch-off and bag-up pedestrian crossing - £679

Other charges that can apply:

  • standing charge - if an engineer is kept waiting - £83 per hour
  • erroneous visits - £83 per hour
  • late cancellation fee - half the bag up cost
  • damaged/stolen bags - £35 per bag

Prices exclude VAT; this will be added at the current rate at time of order.

Any remedial works that are required to be carried out at the signals as a result will be chargeable. Such remedial work includes any damage to loop sensors in the road.

Conditions

Please be aware that applicants are liable for any damage, however it arises, caused to the traffic signals during the period between commencement of bagging and restoration of power to the site (the period when the signals are bagged).

Any remedial works that are required to be carried out at the signals as a result will be chargeable.

Before you apply

Please ensure you obtain all the relevant permissions for the work you are undertaking.

Licences can be requested and processed simultaneously, but you must request consents separately. This particular licence requests a signal switch-off and bag-up, but it does not give consent for the activity itself to take place, for example:

  • you will need authorisation to use temporary signals
  • if you are undertaking private street works to install or repair apparatus in the Highway you also need a Section 50 licence
  • if you are installing something like scaffold or hoarding which obstructs the road, you also need to request the relevant licence
  • if you are working on behalf of Dorset Council or a Statutory Undertaker (utility company), you also need to check you have the correct street works permits in place

Timescales

Complete applications must be received at least 14 days before engineer attendance is required, or as soon as possible in emergency situations.
