How to vote in future elections
If you’ve received a letter saying your postal vote has expired, you have two options to vote in future elections:
- vote in person at your allocated polling station. You will need to bring an accepted form of photographic ID; or
- apply for a new postal vote, if you want to keep voting by post
Applying for a new postal vote
You will need:
- your date of birth
- your National Insurance number
- a photograph of your handwritten signature, written in black ink on plain white paper
If you are unable to complete an application online, you can either:
- complete the paper application form enclosed within the letter we sent
- contact us to request a another copy of the paper application
- download a copy of the form
Your completed application then needs to be returned to us.
If you are unable to provide a signature
You can still apply for a postal vote if you can’t provide a consistent signature. If you apply online and someone is helping you with your application, there is an option to include the name of the person helping you and the reason why you are unable to provide a consistent signature.
If you complete a paper application, please contact us by phone or email and ask us to send you a waiver declaration, which you will need to complete and return to us with your postal vote application form.
