Filming permit

Guidance on filming locations and how to apply to film, drone film and photograph in Dorset.
 

You will need to have:

• £10 million public liability insurance
• £10 million employer’s liability insurance
• risk assessment

Conditions

We ask that you:

• apply for permissions in good time – please allow 1 working day for an initial response
• abide by our filming code of conduct
• consult and inform residents and businesses who may be disrupted and inconvenienced by your activities

Locations

Popular filming locations include:

• Weymouth Beach and Esplanade
• Weymouth Harbour
• Lodmoor Country Park (various locations)
• Chesil Beach Esplanade
• West Bay Harbour
• Lyme Regis Harbour and Cobb

Impacts on the highway

If your filming exercise will impact the highway, you need to apply for road space and traffic management permissions:

• you need to give at least 14 days' notice for a road space booking if you want to use positive traffic management control - like stop/go boards or temporary signals
• you need to give at least 3 months' notice for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) for road closures

Timing and notice required

We will aim to process your application as quickly as possible however we would appreciate it if you are able to give us 10 working days’ notice.
