Want to make your home more energy efficient but don’t know where to start? You could benefit from a free home visit from a trained energy assessor.
There are two ways to access a free home visit in Dorset.
Free home visit through LEAP
LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership) is a free home visit scheme that helps residents across Dorset improve energy efficiency and reduce bills. Through LEAP, a qualified energy advisor will:
- assess your home and suggest practical ways to save energy and money
- provide free energy-saving devices
- help you access grants and support for insulation or heating upgrades
- offer access to other improvements such as heating upgrades, insulation, free appliances, and replacement boilers
Who can apply?
You may qualify if you receive any of the following benefits:
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Guarantee Credit or Pension Savings Credit
- Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction
- Disability benefits (including Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, DLA, PIP, Severe Disablement Allowance)
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
Or if your total annual household income is less than £31,000.

Free home visit from a Community Energy Champion
Community Energy Champions are trained local volunteers who can visit your home to:
- identify cold spots using thermal imaging cameras
- discuss energy-saving ideas and low-cost improvements
- offer guidance on grants and support available
They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping you reduce energy bills and improve comfort.
Currently, Community Energy Champions are only available in:
- Lyme Regis & Charmouth - visit the Lyme Regis Town Council website to find out more

Appointments for home visits from champions are limited and offered on a first come first served basis.
