Want to make your home more energy efficient but don’t know where to start? You could benefit from a free home visit from a trained energy assessor. 

There are two ways to access a free home visit in Dorset. 

Free home visit through LEAP

LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership) is a free home visit scheme that helps residents across Dorset improve energy efficiency and reduce bills. Through LEAP, a qualified energy advisor will: 

  • assess your home and suggest practical ways to save energy and money 
  • provide free energy-saving devices 
  • help you access grants and support for insulation or heating upgrades 
  • offer access to other improvements such as heating upgrades, insulation, free appliances, and replacement boilers 

Who can apply?

You may qualify if you receive any of the following benefits: 

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance 
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance 
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance 
  • Income Support 
  • Pension Guarantee Credit or Pension Savings Credit 
  • Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit 
  • Universal Credit 
  • Housing Benefit 
  • Council Tax Reduction 
  • Disability benefits (including Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, DLA, PIP, Severe Disablement Allowance) 
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit 

Or if your total annual household income is less than £31,000.

Free home visit from a Community Energy Champion

Community Energy Champions are trained local volunteers who can visit your home to: 

  • identify cold spots using thermal imaging cameras 
  • discuss energy-saving ideas and low-cost improvements 
  • offer guidance on grants and support available 

They’re friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about helping you reduce energy bills and improve comfort.
