Work has been completed to enhance the safety of the junction of Clarence Road with Queens Avenue in Dorchester.

Our aim is to provide clear pedestrian priority, including a controlled crossing, to improve the safety for vulnerable users and create a safer route for school children and older students.

The new layout:

  • provides a zebra crossing in place of the School Crossing Patrol to provide a safer, controlled crossing facility at all times of day
  • gives priority to Clarence Road vehicles, with Queens Avenue acting as sideroads with give way markings
  • tightens up all the approaches to the junction to slow vehicles and provide crossing points (dropped kerbs and tactile paving) on the three other arms of the junction
  • includes a table top at the junction to further help control vehicle speeds
