There will be upcoming junction improvement and pedestrian crossing scheme along the A37 near Higher Wrackleford, Bradford Peverell Junction.

The scheme includes a number of highway improvements:

  • removing the pedestrian barriers in the centre of the crossing to create more space for people crossing the road
  • installing tactile paving to assist people with visual impairments
  • widening footways near the crossing and bus stop
  • improving footway surfaces outside nearby properties
  • improving visibility for people crossing the A37
  • making changes to the School Lane junction to help reduce vehicle speeds and shorten crossing distances
  • resurfacing sections of the carriageway and refreshing road markings
  • replacing signs within the area

These improvements are intended to address a number of existing issues at the crossing, including limited space for larger cycles and pushchairs, reduced visibility, and features that can make crossing the road more difficult.

Construction is due to start on 19 October 2026 and is expected to last approximately 6 weeks. Temporary two-way traffic signals will be used on A37 during this period to maintain safe access through the area. School Lane will also be closed for the duration of the scheme, although access will be maintained for school buses.

A localised signed diversion will be in place during the closure.
