When David (73) and Christine Coombes (67) moved into St Martin’s Extra Care in Gillingham, they weren’t just looking for a new home, they were looking for reassurance.
Christine lives with MS and had also recently been diagnosed with cancer. Knowing that support was available around the clock has made a huge difference for them and their loved ones.
Christine said:
“Having 24-hour support brings peace of mind for us and our children, especially after my recent cancer diagnosis.
It is a lovely place with lovely staff. We have a beautiful garden, health care, and we don’t have to drive far to get what we need.”
St Martin’s offers self‑contained homes, alongside 24/7 support, helping people live independently while knowing help is close at hand if it’s needed. That balance means residents can stay well, feel secure and avoid unnecessary trips to hospital.
St Martin’s is the latest extra care development in Dorset, giving people a safe, supportive place to live as their needs change, without losing their independence or sense of home. More schemes like this are planned across the county.
