We have a strong and proud legacy of environmentally friendly initiatives, projects and programmes.

Programmes and schemes that are currently supporting individuals, communities and businesses in Dorset tackle the climate emergency.

Low Carbon Dorset

Low Carbon Dorset is our 5 year programme of activities to help boost Dorset’s low carbon economy and reduce its carbon footprint. Through this EU funded programme businesses, community groups and publicly funded bodies can access free technical support and grant funding for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.

To date, £7million worth of low carbon projects have been supported through the programme, with over 200 grants awarded to Dorset based organisations to help reduce their carbon footprint.

Healthy Homes Dorset

Healthy Homes Dorset offers free loft and cavity wall insulation as well as replacement heating systems to Dorset residents. In addition to the free insulation services, they can offer expert advice and support on how to keep your home warm, save money on energy bills, and reduce damp, mould and condensation.

Litter Free Dorset

Dorset Council helps fund Litter Free Dorset – land, coast and sea, a community campaign and strategic approach to creating better quality local environments for everyone in Dorset. The project explores and realises the social, economic and environmental benefits of reducing the impacts of litter in the county’s towns, beaches and open spaces.

Working with public sector partners

We have established a ‘Public Sector Decarbonisation and Ecology Group’ in Dorset. This group brings together local public sector partners such as the NHS, Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Bournemouth University and BCP Council, and acts as a place to share best practice and work together on joint projects. This group is one of many partnerships we’re involved in to drive positive change within our county.
