This award enables candidates to manage and maintain a Swimming Pool, Spa and interactive play features operation via receiving the training necessary to reflect the most up to date requirements and standards for Pool Plant operation and complies with PWTAG recommendations.

Employers have a legal obligation to train plant room operation to a level 3 as standard.

Pre-requisites

You must

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • have satisfactorily completed the pre-course worksheet assignment

This award covers:

  • the industry lead bodies and their recommendations and guidelines
  • pollution and its removal, the threat of diseases such as legionnaires and how they are controlled
  • principles of circulation and filtration and the requirement for regular maintenance
  • how the physical characteristics of a Swimming Pool can be hazardous
  • swimming pool ventilation and heating systems
  • the principles of water treatment including pH, water balance and water testing
  • microbiological Testing
  • analysis and interpretation of readings leading to corrective action
  • methods for recording results and maintaining records
  • understanding the different types of residual & non residual disinfectants and their use in water treatment
  • developing an understanding and awareness of current industry best practice, guidance and recommendations
  • principles of Health and Safety and the relevant Statutes
  • developing an understanding of the environmental implications of operating and managing swimming pools, spas and associated plant
  • energy and Cost Efficiency
  • this award is valid for 5 years

 

Assessment

Assessment includes:

  • completion of pre-course worksheet assignment
  • satisfactory completion of course manual
  • completion of course multi-choice paper consisting of 25 questions, each worth 1 mark, the pass is 18
  • undertaking of practical water testing, analysis and interpretation
  • completing post-course assessment sheet and returning to tutor

Pre-requisites

You must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • hold an in-date STA Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment or acceptable equivalent. Please bring the certificate on the day

Assessment

You must complete the assessment paper: pass mark is 24 out of a possible 40 marks.
