Swimming Teachers' Association (STA) Level 2 Award in Swimming Pool Water Treatment (QCF)

1 July and 7 October 9am to 4.30pm - £180

This award is designed to enable candidates to understand the basic principles of the treatment of swimming pool water. It provides candidates with the knowledge and skills to competently test water and maintain safe bathing conditions.

Pre-requisites

• be 16 years of age or older

The award enables the candidate to understand:

  •  sources of pollution and control measure
  •  basic principles of pool water filtration & backwashing
  •  the key features of a swimming pool circulation system
  •  the potential dangers and hazards associated with suction entrapment and entanglement
  •  the role and purpose of disinfectants in swimming pools
  •  the pH scale, its function and related water terminology
  •  the basic principles of water testing, recording and interpretation leading to corrective action
  •  the importance of COSHH
  • This award is valid for 5 years

STA Level 3 Award in Pool Plant Operations (QCF)

1 to 3 July 2019 and 7 to 9 October 9am to 4pm - £350

This award enables candidates to manage and maintain a Swimming Pool, Spa and interactive play features operation via receiving the training necessary to reflect the most up to date requirements and standards for Pool Plant operation and complies with PWTAG recommendations.

Employers have a legal obligation to train plant room operation to a level 3 as standard.

Pre-requisites

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • satisfactory completion of pre-course worksheet assignment

This award covers:

  • the industry lead bodies and their recommendations and guidelines
  • pollution and its removal, the threat of diseases such as legionnaires and how they are controlled
  • principles of circulation and filtration and the requirement for regular maintenance
  • how the physical characteristics of a Swimming Pool can be hazardous
  • swimming pool ventilation and heating systems
  • the principles of water treatment including pH, water balance and water testing
  • microbiological Testing
  • analysis and interpretation of readings leading to corrective action
  • methods for recording results and maintaining records
  • understanding the different types of residual & non residual disinfectants and their use in water treatment
  • developing an understanding and awareness of current industry best practice, guidance and recommendations
  • principles of Health and Safety and the relevant Statutes
  • developing an understanding of the environmental implications of operating and managing swimming pools, spas and associated plant
  • energy and Cost Efficiency
  • This award is valid for 5 years

Assessment

  • completion of Pre-course Worksheet Assignment
  • satisfactory completion of course manual
  • completion of course multi-choice paper consisting of 25 questions, each worth 1 mark, the pass is 18
  • undertake practical water testing, analysis and interpretation
  • post course assessment sheet to be completed and returned to tutor

Lunch for all courses can be purchased from ALLSTARS Sports Bar which is situated within the sports centre.

Re-validation

2 to 3 of July and 7 to 8 October 2019, 9am to 4pm - £200

The STA Level 3 Award in Pool Plant Operations (QCF) refreshes candidates knowledge to help them manage and maintain a Swimming Pool, Spa and interactive play features operation via receiving the training necessary to reflect the most up to date requirements and standards for Pool Plant operation and comply with with PWTAG recommendations.

Pre-requisites

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • hold an in-date STA Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Water Treatment or acceptable equivalent. Please bring certificate on the day.

Course Information
