Coronavirus (COVID-19) update for the Gym at Purbeck Sports Centre

We are delighted to welcome you back to the gym. For your safety we've made some changes to our gym procedures. We have also increased our cleaning regime. Gym numbers will be limited and you will need to book a session in advance.

Equipment has been reduced to follow good hygiene and social distances practices; windows and door will be open at all times as per COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Disinfectant spray and blue roll will be available to make sure you follow good hygiene practices. Unfortunately use of Wellness keys is unavailable.

Use the Gym safely

To use the Gym safely you must:

  • book and pay for your session over the phone before you arrive
  • arrive in your gym kit; there are no changing facilities available
  • do not bring your own towels; we will provide blue roll
  • queue outside the Centre keeping 2 metres apart
  • wait to meet a member of the Gym team when you arrive
  • take part in our COVID-19 induction when you first visit our Gym
  • be aware of social distancing at all times when using the Gym
  • wear face coverings in all communal areas of the centre

Staying safe

In order to keep you safe we have implemented new social distancing measures throughout the centre and a one way system will be in place. Signage will aid you with your journey to the gym.

The number of people in the lobby and reception areas will be restricted. Please queue outside the Sports Centre area if you see 1 person in the lobby or reception area. When it is safe to enter the Centre you will be greeted by a member of staff who will tell you where to go and give further instructions.

Other things to remember are to:

  • bring your own water bottle
  • remember there's no hire equipment available
  • make sure you safely sanitise your hands wherever possible before touching anything in the Sports Centre
  • not stop in the corridors
  • avoid touching doors, use the foot pushes provided instead

During and after your workout:

  • follow the red arrows and maintain social distancing if you need to use the toilet. If you need to pass another customer, please turn your back
  • make sure to wipe down the free weights if you use them
  • remember you cannot use the functional zone due to the spacing requirements of the equipment
  • wipe machines down before and after use, using the disinfectant and blue roll supplied
  • leave the gym by the back exit, walk round the building and then follow the exit arrows
  • do not re-enter the building via the back doors, we must operate a one way system

Virtual Gym Inductions

If you would like to become a member of our gym we are delighted to be able to now offer virtual inductions. Virtual inductions have been introduced in the place of group inductions with a member of the gym team. We have made the decision to help ensure we can abide by social distancing guidance at all times.

Once you sign up to become a member of the gym we shall send you an email that will include links to all of our virtual inductions. The inductions will cover off how to use each piece of equipment in the gym safely and correctly. Please ensure that you watch all of the videos before attending your first gym session.

Personal Training

At present we are not running any Personal training sessions in the gym due to social distancing requirments. Should this change we shall update you.
