Purbeck Cycle Ride

A 47 mile, long distance route for the dedicated cyclist, taking in stunning coastal views, beautiful rural landscapes and interesting historic landmarks.

Details of the Purbeck Cycle Ride
Starting point: Wareham Quay - postcode: BH20 4LP
Alternative starting points: Norden Car Park, Corfe Castle, Swanage, West Lulworth, Moreton or Bere Regis
Distance: 47 miles (75.2km)
Average time needed: All day/weekend for entire route or can be ridden in small sections
Grading: Difficult - Mainly on road, several very steep hills

Note:Sections of this route travel across land owned by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and as a result is sometimes closed to public access. It is advisable to check in advance that the roads are open - please call 01929 404819.

Cycle parking: Cycle parking is found at Wareham Quay (for 4 bikes), Norden Car Park (for 30 bikes), Corfe Castle (for 10 bikes), Swanage (for 10 bikes) and Lulworth Castle (for 10 bikes).

Public transport:

There are railway stations on the Weymouth to London Waterloo line at Wareham and Moreton. Most trains can accommodate a number of bikes on each journey. The  Northport Greenway cycle route links Wareham Railway Station to Wareham Quay.

Swanage Railway operates a vintage train service between Swanage, Herston, Harman's Cross, Corfe Castle and Norden. The Railway has a guards carriage for bicycles.

Car parking:

Long stay parking is available at  Streche Road and Connegar Lane in Wareham. If you would like to start the ride in Corfe Castle, parking is available at Norden Car Park.

Facilities and refreshments:  There are cafes and pubs in Wareham, Corfe Castle, Swanage, East Lulworth, West Lulworth and Moreton. Public toilets can be found in Wareham, Corfe Castle, Swanage and West Lulworth.
