Warning From 1 April you will no longer be able to use a short stay permit in Portland Bill car park. This is because Dorset Council will no longer be responsible for this site.
Our parking permits have changed to virtual permits. Contact us if you are having difficulty accessing the virtual system.

The short stay car park permit allows:

  • a single parking session for up to 2 hours every day in most of Dorset Council car parks apart from these car parks.
  • 2 vehicles to be registered per permit (but can only be used on one vehicle at a time)

Cost and duration

The short stay car park permit is:

  • £90 for 12 months

Permit holders can buy extra parking from the machine or by JustPark App (app for iPhone or Android) if they need longer than a two hour session.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permit the vehicle registered to the permit must be fully roadworthy. It must be taxed, insured, and have a valid MOT.

Mipermit manage permits on our behalf. Permits are electronic so you do not need to display anything in your vehicle.

Using your permit

Download the MiPermit app

When you buy a permit you will be emailed a pin number which allows you to set up an account with MiPermit (if you aren't already registered). To use your permit you need to download and register with the MiPermit app (download the app for iPhone or Android). When you get to the car park, open up the MiPermit app and enter a 6 digit code: 861012. (This is the same code for all car parks in which you can use the permit.) This will start your parking session for 2 hours. See MiPermit on Youtube for further guidance.

If you need to stay for longer, you can pay for more parking using JustPark or the ticket machines separately. Where a longer stay than 2 hours is permitted.

If you cannot download the app, there is the option to activate your parking session by texting, or by calling.

Text / SMS

  • text PARK 861012 2hours to 61600 from your mobile phone.
  • if you have more than one car registered text PARK 861012 2hours T123EST to 61600 from your mobile phone.

Our automated system will call you back for the following information:

  • car park location number (861012)
  • if you wish to receive an SMS reminder 20 minutes before the stay expires (charges apply)

If at anytime you have difficulty with the process, stay on the phone or press the star key and you will be transferred to one of the MiPermit team that will help you through the remainder of the process.

SMS relies on having a mobile phone connection but doesn't need a data connection to the internet so can be used anywhere that you have a signal. Sending an SMS to 61600 is charged at your standard message rate by your mobile network provider. You cannot pay for your parking through your mobile telephone's subscription.

Telephone (Automated Telephone Service)

We also support starting your parking session by telephone:

On arrival at a participating car park, call 0345 505 1155 from your mobile. Calls cost the standard national rate as set by your mobile provider and should be included in your minutes package.

If calling from a telephone that is not your registered mobile phone, you will be asked to enter your member number (mobile or landline number).

Follow these steps:

  1. Enter the six digit location code using your keypad (861012)
  2. If you have more than one vehicle on your account, you will be asked to select the vehicle to use.
  3. Select whether to have an SMS reminder sent to you 20 minutes before the end of the stay (charges apply)
  4. Stay on the phone until you get a message confirming the stay has been created
