Information governance is a framework for making information useful and reducing risk to the Council e.g. from non-compliance or reputational damage. Dorset Council’s corporate information covers all documents, data, and content (web pages and social media) in any format created or received as part of council business.

The Information Governance Framework includes policies on:

  • information governance
  • data protection
  • data breaches
  • individual information governance hts
  • Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
  • confidential waste, clear desks and screens
  • data quality
  • protective marking
  • records management
  • records retention
  • information security management

There is an easy to follow information governance guide available on the intranet under the information governance tab, where you will also find our contact details.

You will need to read the information governance guide on day one. You will also need to complete mandatory data protection and cyber security e-learning modules within your first two days. There is an optional information governance e-learning module.
