The purpose of a Road Safety Audit is to:

  • assess safety implications for highway improvements and new road schemes
  • take into account all road users, especially vulnerable users such as cyclists and pedestrians
  • make recommendations to the scheme designers with the objectives of minimising future collisions and injuries

Different Road Safety Audits are carried out at different stages of the scheme:

  • stage 1 - on completion of preliminary design
  • stage 2 - on completion of detailed design (or you can carry out a combined Stage 1 and 2 Audit)
  • stage 3 - on completion of works and
  • stage 4 - 12 months after completion of works
