You need to apply for permission to place a portable variable message sign (PVMS) on the highway.
Portable variable message signs are electronic sign boards on trailers, normally positioned to provide flexible messaging to traffic in events and roadworks areas in real-time.
In most instances the messages displayed on the signs are remotely controlled. We decide on the message that will be shown, which will be stated in the licence approval.
