Recycling team talks and school visits
Recycling team visit
Our friendly and knowledgeable officers can visit your school, community organisation, workplace, communal residence, youth club, volunteering group etc. to talk to you about a variety of waste management-related topics, including:-
- how to correctly use the 'Recycle for Dorset' service
- how to reduce the amount of waste you or your organisation creates
- ideas for reusing waste items
- litter prevention
- dealing with food waste
- real nappies
- where waste goes after collection
- composting
Content and running times can be tailored accordingly. If you can give us an idea of the topic you'd like covered, number of attendees, preferred timeframe and location, we will be in touch to discuss your education visit. We can also set up an information stand at your event if appropriate.
School visits
We offer assemblies to children aged from 4 to 11 and can also offer class visits and year group visits. We can deliver assemblies covering:
- reducing, reusing, recycling and composting
- food waste. What happens to the food that's collected and how to reduce our own food waste
- composting. See details below about providing free compost bins and caddies
We would be happy to include other specific waste-related topics if required. We can also provide visits to nursery aged children as well as students with special educational needs.

Free compost bins for schools
Dorset schools can have up to two free 330 litre or 220 litre compost bins plus two lidded caddies for collecting waste. If you would like to order some bins then please contact us. Please note that you will need to arrange a time when an officer can talk to the pupils and staff about composting before your compost bin is delivered.
