Why we have policies and strategies

All local authorities need a framework of strategies and policies to cover the different aspects of their work. Some of these are required by law, others are driven by local priorities.

The decision-making process

Strategies and policies are agreed by councillors. The decision-making process may include:

  • directors of services
  • directorate management/leadership teams
  • the relevant overview committee
  • cabinet
  • full council
