The consultation on where we should build in Purbeck 2012 to 2026
The 8 week public consultation, which finished on 30 July 2010, asked residents and businesses in the district 'Where shall we build....2012 to 2026?' in Bere Regis, Wool and Bovington, Wareham, Upton and Lychett Matravers, and Swanage and Corfe Castle. This was undertaken as part of the Core Strategy, Purbeck's new plan to manage growth and development up to 2026.
It followed the consultation in autumn 2009 when we asked the public where new development should be located in the district. At that time 63% supported the council's Preferred Option of distributing development around Swanage, Upton, Wareham and the Key Service Villages of Bere Regis, Lytchett Matravers and Wool.
Having received support from the public for the council's Preferred Option, we then looked at individual sites for development around the towns and villages and what supporting infrastructure such as open space, community facilities, etc. should be provided.
A series of leaflets entitled 'Where shall we build... 2012 to 2026?'were produced and one was sent to all residents and businesses in the district for their area. The areas are:
- North West (around Bere Regis)
- South West (around Wool and Bovington)
- Central (around Wareham)
- North East (around Upton and Lytchett Matravers)
- South East (around Swanage and Corfe Castle)
Copies of the leaflets were also distributed to public libraries and town/parish council offices.
