New fuel pontoon for fishing boats and visitors

Weymouth Harbour, a working harbour used by fishing vessels, commercial operators and visiting leisure boats, now has a dedicated refuelling point.

Boat operators in Weymouth now have more choice on where to refuel following the opening of the new fuel pontoon adjacent to Weymouth Pavilion.

Red Diesel is available during operational hours by contacting the Weymouth Harbour Team, opening times and pump price (PPL) are displayed on site, or contact the Harbour Office for commercial rates.

Cllr Jon Andrews, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Place Services, said: “Making it easier for vessels to refuel in Weymouth Harbour helps local businesses, fishing boats and visiting operators run smoothly.

“Our harbours play an important role in supporting jobs and the local economy, as well as being part of the town’s identity.

This is a practical improvement that supports day-to-day operations, and we’ll keep looking at how we can maintain and improve facilities in the future.”

The new fuel pontoon and other improvements for fishermen in Weymouth Harbour have been funded by a £3.79m grant from the Coastal Communities Fund. The enhancements include a new fish landing quay and new compound areas for storage plus an ice making facility and refrigerated chilled catch area.

Weymouth Harbour is an important part of the town’s economy and identity, and the new pontoon builds on existing harbour services and forms part of the council’s work to maintain and improve essential infrastructure.

Vessel operators can request fuel by contacting Weymouth Harbour via:

• VHF Channel 12 (call sign “Weymouth Harbour”)
• Telephone: 01305 838423
