More than 700 residents help shape the future of Littlemoor and Broadwey
Residents in Littlemoor, Broadwey and Upwey are being thanked for helping shape the future of their community.
More than 700 residents have helped shape plans for a £20 million investment programme.
Local people shared more than 3,500 ideas during a major community consultation this summer on how the funding can support projects chosen by the local community.
Their feedback will now help guide projects and priorities for the area over the next 10 years.
Surveys were distributed to every household, with additional opportunities to get involved through community venues, pop-up events, schools and online.
The feedback highlighted some common themes, with safety in public spaces, cleanliness of the area, and activities for children and young people emerging as the top priorities for both adults and young people.
Residents also suggested a wide range of projects, from reducing speeding and improving play areas to providing skills training and more affordable housing.
Kevin Hodder, Chair of the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, said:
"I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to complete a survey and share their ideas. We have been delighted by the response and overwhelmed by the number of thoughtful suggestions we have received.
"The message from residents is clear. People are passionate about where they live and want to see positive changes that make a real difference to their community.
"Every suggestion will be considered as we develop our draft Pride in Place plan. While we won't be able to do everything, we will focus on the ideas that are most strongly supported by the community and have the potential to make the biggest impact.
"This is only the first stage of the conversation. We hope residents will come along to our upcoming community events, hear about the draft proposals and help us refine the plan before it is finalised."
The Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board is now reviewing every survey response and suggestion as it develops a draft 10-year plan for the area.
Lloyd Hatton MP said "A huge thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the community consultation. It is fantastic that local people shared more than 3,500 ideas. Whether it is improving youth services, building new football facilities at Ridgeway FC, upgrading green spaces or fixing up local businesses, local people will make these decisions.
"Of course we want to be led by the community, but we can only do that if everyone speaks up and shares their ideas, so do pop along if you're able to attend one of the community events and make sure your voice is heard!"
The board includes representatives from local organisations, community groups and public sector partners, working together to ensure the funding delivers lasting benefits for residents.
Residents will have the opportunity to review the draft Pride in Place plan and provide further feedback at a series of public events later this autumn.
Cllr Matt Bell, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Public Health, Prevention and Communities, said:
"It's fantastic to see so many people getting involved and taking the opportunity to shape the future of Littlemoor and Broadwey.
"The strength of the response shows how much local people care about their community and the difference they want to make.
This funding presents a real opportunity to bring about lasting improvements over the next decade, and it's vital that local people continue to guide how that investment is used.
"I would encourage residents to stay involved, come along to one of the upcoming events and help us develop a shared vision for the future of the area."
