Got a great idea for your community? Apply for funding and get expert help

Dorset Council is inviting applications for the latest round of its Community and Culture Project Fund, offering grants of up to £5,000 to support not-for-profit groups delivering arts, heritage, sports, and community activities across the county.
To help applicants prepare strong submissions, Dorset Council will host a “Hints and Tips” workshop, offering expert advice from Arts, Community and Sports Officers, alongside specialist input from the Arts Development Company.
The workshop will also feature Ceri Johnson, Relationship Manager for Arts Council England (ACE), who will deliver a presentation on how to avoid common weaknesses in funding applications. Participants will also be able to talk to her about Grantium and ACE funds.
- Date and time: Thursday 16 October 2025, 1pm to 4pm
- Venue: Council Chamber, Gillingham Town Hall, School Rd, Gillingham, SP8 4QR.
The workshop is ideal for those new to the application process or looking to improve their chances of success. To book a place, contact leisure@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk or just turn up on the day.
Cllr Ryan Hope, Cabinet Member for Customer, Culture and Community Engagement, said:
“We know how vital community-led projects are in making Dorset a vibrant and inclusive place to live. The Community and Culture Project Fund is a fantastic opportunity for local groups to bring their ideas to life.
“This year’s workshop will give applicants the tools and confidence they need to make a strong case for funding. I encourage anyone with a great idea to get involved.”
Recent rounds of the fund have supported a wide range of impactful projects, including:
- Dorchester Transport Action Group’s “Streets Alive” project, promoting active travel and community engagement.
- The Ripple Workshop’s Young Parents Project in Beaminster, offering support and connection for young families.
- Ferndown Community Support CIC’s Healthy Eating Project, providing foodbank users with nutritional education and cooking skills.
- Dorchester Disabled Club’s “Discover and Connect”, enabling creative and practical activities for people with disabilities.
- We Are Weymouth’s “Dusk 'til Dark” and “Fossil Trail” events, celebrating local culture and heritage.
- Millstream Theatre’s “The Next Stage!” at the Museum of East Dorset, supporting inclusive theatre experiences.
- Weymouth Climate Hub’s “Signposting Our Future”, raising awareness of climate issues through community engagement.
Round 10 of the fund is now open for applications, and closes at midnight on Friday, 21 November 2025. Grants will be awarded by the end of December.
