Gearing up for more buses to Weymouth with new summer park & ride timetable

First Bus, with support from Dorset Council, is adding more journeys to its Service 2 from Mount Pleasant Park & Ride, to cater for increased demand during the summer holiday season.

From today (Thursday 23 July), peak frequency will increase to every 12 minutes (Monday to Saturday) from the current 15 minutes and on Sundays buses will run every 15 minutes instead of at 20-minute intervals.

An additional trip will run on Monday evenings throughout the summer holidays when a series of firework displays are taking place. The last bus will leave at 10:00pm from King’s Statue for return journeys to the Park and Ride.

Cllr Nick Ireland, Leader of Dorset Council, said:

"I'm delighted to see investment and more frequent services at Weymouth’s Park & Ride - we are determined to unlock its full potential. By encouraging more people to park their cars for free at Mount Pleasant and complete their journey by bus, we can remove traffic from some of the town's busiest roads and support our ambitions for cleaner air in the town.

"Since being developed to support the 2012 Olympics, this facility has never received the recognition or strategic focus it deserves as a tool for reducing congestion, cutting emissions and improving air quality in Weymouth.

"The upgraded facilities and frequency of buses show how practical investment in sustainable transport can deliver real benefits. At just £6.50 for up to 2 adults and 3 children to travel into the town centre, the Park & Ride offers excellent value for visitors to the town and is a greener, less stressful alternative to driving and finding parking in the centre.”

“We’re getting ready for a busy summer season and look forward to welcoming more customers on board for quick and easy journeys to access Weymouth’s shops, beaches and coastal areas.

“Using the park and ride helps reduce traffic on local roads and the problems of congestion.”

Dorset Council is making a number of improvements to the Mount Pleasant Park & Ride site, including new signage, digital displays and upgrading facilities to further enhance the appeal of the Park and Ride.
