GCSE results day arrives for thousands of Dorset students

After months of hard work, revision and exams, thousands of young people across Dorset are receiving their GCSE, BTEC Tech and other Level 2 qualifications today.

Results have been released this morning to students across the country, marking an important milestone as they prepare for the next stage of their education, training or employment journey.

Councillor Clare Sutton, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said:

"I would like to congratulate every young person receiving their GCSE and Level 2 results today. These results reflect years of commitment, determination and hard work, and everyone should be proud of what they have achieved.

"Today is an important moment, but it is just one step in your journey. Whether your results are exactly what you hoped for or not, there are many different pathways open to you, including further education, training, apprenticeships and employment.

"I would also like to thank teachers, support staff, parents, carers and families across Dorset who have encouraged and supported young people throughout the year. Their guidance plays a vital role in helping students reach their potential.

"To all students receiving their results today, I wish you every success and happiness in whatever you choose to do next."

Whether students are celebrating results that met their expectations or considering alternative routes, there are a wide range of opportunities available to help them take their next steps with confidence.

Young people who are unsure about their options can speak to their school or college for advice and guidance.

Information about post-16 education, training and employment opportunities is available through Dorset Council's education and careers webpages, alongside support from local providers and the National Careers Service.

While many young people will be celebrating today, results day can be an anxious time for some students. Anyone who is feeling worried, disappointed or overwhelmed is encouraged to seek support from their school, college, family or trusted adults, and a range of wellbeing and mental health services are available locally and nationally.

Young Minds and Kooth offer support for anyone who feels disappointed with their grades. Students are also advised to speak to their school, as they will be able to provide support and advice on next steps.  

For young people who need additional mental health support Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and NHS 111 can provide advice and assistance.
