Dorset Council will host a special Armed Forces Ceremony at County Hall, Dorchester, on Monday 23 June at 10am, in recognition of Armed Forces Day, which takes place nationally on 28 June.

Organised to celebrate and honour the dedication of the UK’s Armed Forces, the event will be led by Cllr Stella Jones MBE, Chair of Dorset Council, and will welcome Military Personnel, Veterans, and Dignitaries from across the region.

The ceremony will feature the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag, which will fly over County Hall until Monday 30 June, symbolising Dorset’s deep respect and appreciation for its Armed Forces community.

Attendees will hear speeches from Cllr Jones, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Michael Dooley LVO, and representatives from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Marines and Royal Air Force.

“Our Armed Forces are the backbone of our nation's security, defending our way of life and protecting British citizens around the world,” said Cllr Jones. “Whether it's responding to crises, providing humanitarian aid or safeguarding our borders, their unwavering commitment ensures our safety and freedom.

“Let us remember the countless individuals who have served and continue to serve with distinction. Their courage and resilience inspire us all, and their contributions to our nation are immeasurable.”

Dorset has long-standing ties to the Armed Forces, with many towns and villages relying on servicemen and women both during active service and in retirement, and their contributions are deeply valued.

The ceremony is free to attend and open to all, especially members of the Armed Forces community and veterans, as well as residents.
