Dorset pupils get their first pick of primary school

Posted on:

Today marks an important day for families in Dorset, as they find out which schools their young children will join in September.

95.8 per cent of applicants have been offered their first choice of primary school (for reception), and just under 95 per cent have been offered their middle school of choice.

Beth Whittaker, Dorset Council Principal Lead – Best Education for All said:

“We recognise the significance of school choice for families, and our team goes above and beyond to attentively address their needs.

“I am thrilled that the majority of families in the Dorset Council area have secured their top preference for primary schools.

“As these students prepare to embark on their new educational journey in September, I extend my warmest wishes for their success.”

From 9:30am on Tuesday 16 April parents and carers will be able to log onto their online account and see the outcome of their application.

In addition, where an email address has been submitted as part of the application, families will be sent a link to get their formal outcome letter.

Whilst preparing for a September school start, families who receive benefits, are also being encouraged to consider what other support they may be entitled to.

All children in reception, year 1 and year 2 automatically get free school meals, but it is still worth checking if you are eligible for benefit-related free school meals.

Eligible children gain further support such as free holiday activities, and schools will receive extra funding to support your child’s education.
