Celebrating the resilience and courage of our Year 11’s

A message from Paul Dempsey, Executive Director of People and Children.
As we begin a new school year filled with opportunity and a renewed commitment to improving outcomes for all, we pause to celebrate a truly remarkable milestone: the GCSE results of our Year 11 students (Key Stage 4/KS4).
This cohort has faced extraordinary challenges. Their journey began during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the traditional transition from primary to secondary school. They missed out on SATs and the usual rites of passage that help build a sense of belonging and confidence. For many, their GCSEs were the first formal exams they had ever sat.
Yet, despite these hurdles, they have shown incredible resilience, determination, and strength of character. Their achievements are a testament not only to their hard work but also to the unwavering support of our dedicated school staff, leaders, and families.
We extend our thanks to every teacher, support staff member, and leader who has guided and championed these young people through such uncertain times. Their success is not just measured in grades, but in the courage and perseverance they have shown.
As we welcome everyone back for the new academic year, we look ahead with optimism. Together, we will continue to focus on improving outcomes, nurturing belonging, and creating opportunities for every learner to thrive.
Councillor Clare Sutton, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said, “I wish to extend my sincere congratulations to all Year 11 students on their GCSE achievements. These results reflect not only the academic commitment of our young people, but also the resilience they have demonstrated in the face of unprecedented challenges."
Once the Department for Education releases the revised data, we will compare our results with those of other local authorities.
This comparison will support our ongoing efforts to identify areas for improvement across schools and educational settings within the Dorset Council area.
