Technology Enabled Care
Technology Enabled Care is a term used to describe a range of products or services that help people continue to live normal lives and remain as independent as possible for as long as possible in their own homes.
There are several types of services:
Telecare sensors that raise an alarm when required
These are generally battery powered and signal wirelessly. These are often called stand-alone devices and are used to alert a carer that assistance is needed or prompt the person to do something for themselves.
Careline/Lifeline Services
Where someone lives alone or can be left alone for long periods of the day, an alarm signal can be sent to a call centre via a care line unit fitted alongside your telephone picked up by a sensor; this is a Community Alarm service or more commonly known as a Careline.
Technology to help you when you are out and about such as GPS tracker/locator
They are light and can look like a watch or key ring. Trackers are helpful if you ever feel unwell or get lost and cost from £60 upwards plus a small fee a month.
