The future of housing - what happens next

Our Voices of Dorset (below) have helped to shape our Housing Strategy. Thank you if you were one of the 2,137 who responded to the consultation.

We have now developed the strategy that sets out the priorities and approach to meet local housing needs and objectives over the next 5 years. It is supported by a themed plan which will be developed into a delivery plan, to be overseen by our Housing Board.

Before our strategy can formally be adopted by the council, it needs to go through a rigorous approval process. It has been recommended for approval by the People and Health Overview Committee and Cabinet. It will heard at a full council meeting before the end of December.

Lead member for Housing, Councillor Graham Carr Jones said, “This high-level strategic approach supports our vision of affordable, suitable, secure homes where our residents can live and thrive as part of sustainable and thriving communities. We had to be bold and forthright in our thinking and recognise we had to do this collaboratively.

I am excited to be sharing this strategy and to see this through.  We call it a living document for a reason, not only because at it’s about the people of Dorset but also in recognition of the varied and ongoing challenges and changes that require us to be nimble, empathetic, and effective.”
