Course aim

The training meets requirements from Tier 2 of the Dementia Training Standards Framework. The course promotes person centred and strengths-based working with individuals with a diagnosis of dementia.

Course learning objectives

The objectives for this course are:

  • understanding the most common types of dementia and their underlying causes
  • understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have Dementia
  • understand and enable interaction and communication with individuals who have Dementia
  • be aware of the impact of delirium, depression, and social stressors
  • overview of likely treatment options depending on types of dementia
  • understand triggers and responses to stressed or distressed behaviours
  • understanding dementia in the context of learning disabilities
  • understand approaches to enable rights and choice for individuals with Dementia whilst minimising risk
  • understand the role of family and carers in supporting the health and well-being of people with dementia
  • understand the person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • end of Life Planning and adapting to new ways of working with dementia care

Course target group

People working in Adult Social Care and Health who are providing personalised direct care and support to people with dementia.

Course cost

£50 per attendee.

These costs will also be incurred for attendees who are classified as a late cancellation, meaning those who cancel their place within 1 week of the course date, or are a ‘no show’ on the day of the course.
