Add your child to a school's waiting list

You can only add your child to a waiting list if you've been refused a place, or you want to renew your place.

Adding your child to a waiting list doesn't guarantee a place for them at that school. Only complete this form if you have been refused a place at a Dorset school (not a school located in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole).

We allocate places based on the individual school's admissions policy and not on a first come, first served basis. We can't discuss current school vacancies over the phone.

If any places become available at the school we'll consider:

  • any current applications
  • anyone else on the waiting list
  • any pending appeals

We will offer the place according to the relevant admissions policy.

We only rank the waiting list against the school policy once a place becomes available. This means we can't tell you what position your child is on the waiting list.

Once you've added them, your child will stay on the waiting list for the autumn term only. You must confirm in writing before the start of the spring school term if you want your child to stay on the list. If the school has a waiting list, your child will stay on the list for the spring and summer terms. You would then need to reapply.

We will contact you immediately if we can offer your child a place.
