Clay valley historic information

Very mixed, with numerous small areas of woodland, some managed in historic times as coppice. Surviving areas of open ground. Piecemeal enclosure dominates, with some more organised enclosure in the vicinity of settlements and farmsteads, presumably of areas of former open fields. Occasional small patches of heathland.
