Wooded chalk downland historic information

More mixed than e.g. Chalk Valley and Downland, with planned enclosure on a smaller scale, but similarly indicating relatively late enclosure of areas of downland. Some enclosure of areas of former open fields adjacent to villages. Large areas of managed woodland, particularly coppice, likely to be at least medieval in origin. Some ‘overlain’ by more recent plantation.
