Coronavirus (COVID-19): updates and advice, including help if you are struggling financially

Business continuity

Nearly 1 in 5 businesses suffer a major disruption every year according to the Business Continuity Institute.

Business Continuity Management (BCM) is about preparing for the outcomes of potential incidents, and planning how your organisation or business will ensure it can continue to function.

What if:

  • you lost access to the building you operate from

  • you lost one, more, or all of your IT systems

  • snow or flu meant you had significantly less staff in

  • there was a loss of utilities, particularly long term

Business Continuity (BC) planning aims to make sure you have all the information and processes in place to recover from any incident. BC will provide you with a plan that will contribute towards minimising financial and reputational impacts, and ensure the survival of your organisation or business into the future.

Getting started with business continuity

Basic BC information is available in the Business Continuity leaflet developed by Central Government and Dorset Council.

To help you and your business with developing and implementing Business Continuity arrangements, the Cabinet Office has also produced a more detailed Business Continuity toolkit for small and medium sized businesses.
